Hello!

I am using one of your great products which is Lynx Hilo! Thank you for making it available for us. Moreover, thank you for continuing enhancing it with the firmware updates.

My question is about some clarification on how I could connect the balanced output of Hilo (XLR) to the unbalanced input of my integrated amplifier (RCA) (on Densen B-110 if that matters). I have seen the explanation on it in the documentation in the 'Unbalanced Connections with Twisted Pair Cable' chapter. It's quite clear.

There is an issue with implementing it though because most of ready XLR-RCA cables seem to wire the XLR pins 1 and 3 together whereas you advise to leave the pin 1 unconnected on the receiver's end.

Will I risk running into some issues if I use one of those ready cables (with the pins 1 and 3 shortly wired)? Will it put any undesirable current on the internals of Hilo?

If there are going to be some (issues) with cables of that type, could you possibly advise what cable should be used for the purpose I outlined above?

Alternatevely, I'd be happy to use the monitor output for sending signal to the amplifier. But it's still the balanced output hence all those questions are equally applied to it?

Many thanks in advance!

Regards,
Dmitry

If you connect pins 1 and 3 together, you risk creating a ground loop if the two pieces of gear are grounded in different ways (plugged into different outlets would do that).  Our XLR to RCA cables are wired with pin 1 unconnected at the RCA end.

Thanks David for the answer. As to the range of your cables, shall I pick up two CBL-XF2RM18 for the purpose? I've checked the list at and it seems to be the only choice. TIA!

I'd like to add 1 question to this subject...

While connecting unbalanced amp to Hilo's xlr out.
Shell I use something like this http://www.amazon.com/ROLLS-MB15b-Promatch-and-More/dp/B0002IL4B4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

Is there an issue with 4db (pro) vs -10db consumer levels?

Shell I just use 'Line Out Trim'?

I'm sorry for lame question, I'm new to pro audio equipment!

Just a question. Wouldn't it be better to run a 600ohm resistor between 1 & 3 rather leaving pin 1 unterminated and depending on cable length, acting as sort or a antenna?
