Mackie Mixer...

Although this example was designed for the Mackie 1402VLZ, you should be able to use a similar procedure for other mixers as well. Testing the Playback side first is always recommended, as there would be no way of determining if a recording problem was on the record side or the playback side.

Testing the Playback side of the LynxONE

Confirm the following settings on your Mackie mixer:

  • LYNXONE ANALOG OUT LEFT & RIGHT are connected to LINE IN 13-14 L&R using two of our XLR FEMALE to 1/4" TRS connectors (CBL-XF2TM18). Never connect the LynxONE Analog Outs to a Microphone input. This can damage the LynxONE and the Mixer. See our Frequently Asked Questions for more details.
  • LINE IN 13-14 LEVEL is set to +4
  • LINE IN 13-14 MUTE/ALT 3-4 is UP
  • LINE IN 13-14 VOLUME SLIDER is set to U
  • C-R/SOURCE MAIN MIX is PRESSED
  • C-R/SOURCE ASSIGN TO MAIN MIX is NOT PRESSED
  • CTL ROOM/SUB MIX VOLUME SLIDER is set to U
  • MAIN MIX VOLUME SLIDER are both set to U
  • HEADPHONES are connected to the PHONES output on the top of the mixer.
  • ALL OTHER SLIDERS are set to -infinity (all the way down)

In the LynxONE Mixer confirm the following settings:

  • ALL VOLUME FADERS are all the way up
  • SAMPLE CLOCK SOURCE is set to INTERNAL
  • TRIM is set to +4dBu
  • MONITOR SOURCE is set to ANALOG IN
  • BOTH MONITOR BUTTONS are UP/OFF

Using our Demo32 application, play our Dialtone.wav file that can be downloaded from our web site. Please note the Dialtone.exe file is a self-extracting archive that needs to be run once to product the Dialtone.wav file.

You should now hear a clear dial tone in your headphones. If it sounds distorted, try turning down the VOLUME FADERS on the CTL ROOM/SUB MIX. The level meters on the Mackie should go quite a bit above 0, probably up to +10.

Testing the Record side of the LynxONE

Confirm the following settings on your Mackie mixer:

  • LYNXONE ANALOG IN LEFT & RIGHT are connected directly to MAIN OUT L&R on the Mackie with no adapter or extension cables in between
  • LINE IN 13-14 MUTE/ALT 3-4 is DOWN
  • LINE IN 13-14 VOLUME SLIDER is set to U
  • C-R/SOURCE MAIN MIX is NOT PRESSED
  • C-R/SOURCE ALT 3-4 is PRESSED
  • C-R/SOURCE ASSIGN TO MAIN MIX is NOT PRESSED
  • CTL ROOM/SUB MIX VOLUME SLIDER is set to U
  • MAIN MIX VOLUME SLIDER are both set to U
  • HEADPHONES are connected to the PHONES output on the top of the mixer
  • MICROPHONE is connected to MIC 1 XLR connector
  • PHANTOM POWER button is pressed if required
  • LINE IN 1 TRIM is turned all the way to the right (60dB)
  • LINE IN 1 MUTE/ALT 3-4 is DOWN
  • LINE IN 1 VOLUME SLIDER is set to U
  • ALL OTHER SLIDERS are set to -infinity (all the way down)

You should now hear the microphone cleanly in your headphones. If you do not, the problem is some connection between the microphone and the Mackie Mixer.

Assuming you heard good audio in the previous test, let's try routing the audio through the LynxONE.

Confirm the following settings on your Mackie mixer:

  • LINE IN 1 MUTE/ALT 3-4 is UP (this routes the audio to the main mix, which is what the LynxONE is listening to)

On the LynxONE Mixer make the following settings:

  • ALL VOLUME FADERS are all the way up
  • SAMPLE CLOCK SOURCE is set to INTERNAL
  • TRIM is set to +4dBu
  • MONITOR SOURCE is set to ANALOG IN
  • MONITOR is PRESSED over ANALOG OUT

You should now hear the microphone cleanly in your headphones again. This audio is being routed through the LynxONE, so this confirms the connections are all made correctly.

You can now do your recording with our Demo32 application and you should get clean audio.

An alternate method of connecting the LynxONE Analog Inputs to the mixer is to use the ALT 3-4 outputs instead of the MAIN MIX (this would require two CBL-XM2TM18 adapter cables). This allows the recording source to be controlled by pressing the MUTE/ALT 3-4 button on the desired input, and listening to the recording on the MAIN MIX from the LynxONE Analog Output.
